The Museum
The museum presents the everyday life of the people of Samos through the spaces, objects and professions that shaped the island.
The Folklore Museum has operated since May 1997. It was created with the care of the Nikolaos Dimitriou Literary Foundation and is housed at Doryssa Bay in Pythagoreio.
Its purpose is to keep Samian knowledge tangible: not as a distant past, but through objects and practices that remain familiar in villages across the island.
The museum sits within a traditional village setting inspired by Samian architecture. Cobblestone lanes, courtyards, ovens, public washhouses and workshops continue the exhibition outdoors.
The museum grew through the work of the Foundation and the people who preserved, donated and interpreted the material culture of Samos.
